MSPH Program
The USF College of Behavioral & Community Sciences (CBCS) and the USF College of Public Health (COPH) jointly offer a specialty concentration in behavioral health as part of the Master and Doctoral programs in the COPH Department of Community & Family Health. View the program flyer.
The Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) Behavioral Health Focus is a thesis degree program that prepares students for careers in applied behavioral health research and outcomes evaluation. Requirements include completing a set of COPH core courses, coursework in behavioral health, courses in research methods, a comprehensive exam, and a thesis.
In addition to practical applications of public health, and developing research skills, graduates of the MSPH degree in Behavioral Health will:
- Critically evaluate the utility of a broad range of theories, which have relevance for research and practice in community and family health.
- Use concepts and methods from social and behavioral sciences in the design and implementation of community health research and intervention programs.
- Understand the relationships between psychological, interpersonal, social structural, cultural and biological factors as they impact on disease prevention and health promotion.
- Critically evaluate scholarly research in community and family health in terms of its theoretical soundness, scientific rigor, appropriate use of concepts and methods, and contribution to knowledge.
