Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling Merges with Department of Child & Family Studies

With the ultimate goal of making a strong and vibrant team that will serve the needs of our students, faculty, staff, community and professions, the Department of Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling (RMHC) has become a program in the Department of Child and Family Studies (CFS).

“Our similar missions of improving the well being of, and promoting quality services for, individuals and their families will create incredible synergy for the college, university and beyond,” said Dr. Tennyson Wright, who served as Chair of RMHC and retires this summer.

“This merger will help to strengthen the developing synergy between teaching and research, and we look forward to the many successes we will accomplish together through the combination of our high quality teaching and research expertise,” said Dr. Mario Hernandez, CFS Department Chair.

The change is a result of a reorganization within the College of Behavioral & Community Sciences, and should not affect students in any significant way. Students registered for summer and fall 2015 RMHC courses will not change, nor will the faculty teaching the courses.

In addition, the reorganization will not affect RMHC’s accreditation. Students will continue to take classes, meet with faculty, instructors and advisors as in the past. In addition, no offices or classrooms will be moving. For registration purposes, all RMHC courses will show up under CFS in OASIS.
