Assistant Professor Tammy Jorgensen Smith Receives APSE Research Award
Tammy Jorgensen Smith, PhD, CRC, was awarded the National Association for People Supporting Employment First (APSE) Research Award at the national conference held in Long Beach, California in July 2014. For 25 years, APSE has played a most critical role in establishing supported employment as the viable rehabilitative service for individuals with significant disabilities who have been unable to become employed in the workforce.
The award is in recognition of Dr. Smith's work in developing and testing innovative strategies for promoting self-determination, full inclusion, and competitive employment opportunities for persons with complex disabilities. Chip Kenney, Executive Director of Southeast TACE, nominated Dr. Smith for the award with support from Michael Callahan, President of Marc Gold & Associates and a national expert in customized employment strategies.
Dr. Smith is actively involved in the Employment First movement and in bringing customized employment strategies to public and private vocational rehabilitation systems through collaboration, teaching, and research. Additionally, Dr. Smith was recently selected to serve on the Board of the Florida Chapter of APSE.
