CFS Stephen Roggenbaum Among Who's Who of Prevention Leaders in Florida

The Who's Who of Prevention Leaders in Florida recognizes field leadership of:

  1. individuals who have shown particular initiative in their communities on behalf of substance abuse or violence prevention
  2. members of organizational boards and state advisory groups.

Congratulation to Stephen Roggenbaum, who was inducted into the "2008 Who's Who of prevention Leaders in Florida" at the 22nd Annual Florida Statewide Prevention Conference  held October 1-3 in Orlando.

The Who's Who of Prevention Leaders in Florida recognizes field leadership of individuals who have shown particular initiative in their communities on behalf of substance abuse or violence prevention, and members of organizational boards and state advisory groups.

Roggenbaum has been employed at the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute since 1983. His primary areas of research focus include child welfare and suicide prevention. He has been involved in a number of activities to enhance Florida’s capacity to initiate, implement, and sustain suicide prevention activities. He has  served as project director on a number of grants including the Development of a School-Based Suicide Prevention Tool Kit. Last year, Roggenbaum was appointed by Governor Crist to the Florida Suicide Prevention Coordinating Council

"I commend you for your commitment and dedication to making our communities stronger, safer, and healthier therefore transforming communities and lives!"

In addition to being an award recipient, Roggenbaum was a contributor to two poster sessions at the conference. One poster profiled his work on the development of a brochure, "Take Action...Do Your Part to Prevent Suicide in Florida." The Florida Suicide Prevention Implementation Project staff worked with Florida Suicide Prevention Coordinating Council and members of the Florida Suicide Prevention Coalition and brainstormed 125 ideas for moving the Florida Suicide Prevention Strategy into ongoing community action. A Take Action brochure was created in easy-to-read format to share highlights from these ideas, including specific recommendations for individuals and various groups. 13,000 copies were printed and are being distributed to individuals, organizations and special meetings/conferences throughout the state.

Roggenbaum and Darcy Menter from the District School Board of Pasco County shared information on the Pasco Aware Suicide Prevention Task Force, which is comprosed of a variety of community agency representatives and suicide survivors looking at strategies to improve suicide prevention and intervention efforts in Pasco County,
