CFS faculty Hewitt B. "Rusty" Clark, Kimberly A. Crosland, Glen Dunlap, and Bryon Neff have contributed to a special issue of the Journal of Research on Social Work Practice. The journal is the first professional social work journal to focus on evaluation research and on validating methods of assessment in social work practice. Special Issues provide in-depth studies of topics of particular concern.
The September 2008 Special Issue focuses on children who are removed from their families and placed in state-sponsored care, and profiles the Florida Behavior Analysis Services Program (BASP). As the largest state-funded initiative that has ever focused on behaviorally based training and technical assistance for caregivers in the child welfare system, BASP addresses the emotional and behavioral difficulties often associated with children who have been abused and/or neglected, and provides foster parents and other care givers with strategies and techniques to help children acquire healthy behaviors and skills.
