New from Oxford University Press!

Oxford University Press (OUP) has just published a new book useful for courses in mental health, offering critical elements and issues of mental health, management, and service delivery within a public health framework. Co-edited by CFS’s Bruce Lubotsky Levin and FMHI’s John Petrila, Mental Health Services - A Public Health Perspective, Second Edition has been thoroughly updated and includes new chapters that deal with state mental health systems, recovery as a guiding principle in the design of systems, and the specific needs and challenges of special populations, including issues related to children and adolescents.

The Child Mental Health Policy chapter identifies key policy issues at a time when great attention is being paid to children’s mental health. CFS staff including Robert M. Friedman, PhD, Katherine A. Best, MSW, M.P.H., Mary I. Armstrong, MSW, MBA, Albert J. Duchnowski, PhD, Mary E. Evans, R.N., MSN., PhD, FAAN, Mario Hernandez, PhD, Sharon Hodges, PhD, MBA, and Krista B. Kutash, PhD (see staff page) contributed to the chapter. It first puts child mental health policy in context by briefly reviewing its history, and discussing the prevalence and seriousness of the problem. The chapter then looks at the major policy and system responses that are being made to address the needs of children with mental health challenges and their families and finally examines a series of important policy and system development issues.

The second edition has been expanded to give readers a more comprehensive understanding of the organization, financing and delivery of mental health and substance abuse services, according to the Oxford University Press. “Written by national experts,” describes OUP, “this timely work will provide policymakers, administrators, clinicians, and graduate students with the knowledge base needed to manage and evaluate mental health service delivery systems. The book can be purchased by visiting the Oxford University Press website at http://www.oup.co.uk/isbn/0-19-515395-2.
